NO REFUND WANTED
Petone Council Grant To Scout Jamboree
No refund of its gift of £25 to the preliminary expenses of the New Zealand Boy Scouts’ jamboree will be sought by the Petone Borough Council, according to its unanimous decision last night. The jamboree leader, Mr. J. E. !'• Vogel, advising the abandonment of the jamboree because of the war, asked the council for a direction regarding the £25. He stated that total preliminary expenses incurred were £l3OO and the expenditure over and above the grants made by local bodies would be borne by the boys and would be deducted from their camp fees before these were returned. It was hoped to make the burden of the boys as light as possible. „ „ .. The town clerk, Mr. H. E. Firth, said that the local bodies’ grants totalled £5OO. The mayor, Mr. G. London: 1 can appreciate their position. They* had gone a long way toward completing a big undertaking. I am sure we will not desire a refund of our grant; nor will other local bodies.”
