OPEN BILLIARDS
Wellington Championship
The Wellington open billiards championship, held under the auspices of the Wellington Billiards Association, was commenced at the rooms of Billiards Limited. Woodward Street, last night. The first game was between S. Moses, Post Office Pastimes Club, and E. AV. Petersen, Victory Billiard Room. Moses was verv consistent and compiled breaks of 23. 40. 34, 24, 57, 39. 29 and 38. Petersen played good billiards but was rather unfortunate with the run of the balls. His best break was 28. The game ended : Moses 400, Petersen 194. The second game was between A. A. Armstrong, Federal Club, and AV. McMillan, Fire Brigade. Ordinarily, these two are considered a very even match, but last night: Armstrong early achieved a good lead. He played most consistently and accumulated several, breaks, among the best of which were 45. 21. 23. 56. 38, 25. 25. McMillan, playing without luck, did well in recording a nice 42, his other best being a 21 and 31. At a relatively early stage it was apparent that Armstrong’s form was superior, and from his early lead he ran to points (400) with McMillan at 262.
The games will be continued this evenins. when at 7 p.m. A. Duncan, Paramount, will meet S. M. G. Simpson, G.P.O. Social and Literary Club, and at 8 p.m. L. Stout. Paramount, will meet R. O. Sim. Federal Club. Horace Lindrum, the famous young Australian snooker player, left Wellington on Friday for a North Island tour. Tie is to make several appearances in various towns. II is almost certain that on his return to AVellington on Thul'sday, November 2, he will give a further exhibition.
