Pukekohe Vegetables y Dominion Special Service. PUKEKOHE, September 25. Prices for Pukekohe produce, if.O.r. Pukekohe, are still tlie same as those ruling last Monday. The demand for cabbages and cauliflowers lias I utther improved, and is being filled' readily, but carrots and ewcdcs could at present be sold in langer quantities than are available here. Difficulty was experienced today in filling orders, and it is obvious that temporarily these two lines will be practically unprocurable at Pukekohe. Plants have also been selling to a heavy demand. Prices remain at last week’s level, but supplies are limited. Price quotations today are: Drumhead cabbages, 5/- a Chapman bag and 7/2 a sack; Savoy cabbages, 6/- a Chapman bag and 8/9 a sack ; cauliflowers, 6/9 a Chapman bag and 9/9 a sack; carrots, 11/- a sugar bag; parsnips. 7/2 a sugar bag; swedes 5/- a sugar (bag: cabbage plants, 9/- 1000 or 10/6 in bundles of 25; cauliflower plants, 10/- 1000 or bundles of 25; onion plants. 9/- 1000; tomato plants, 4/6 a tray of 50. Australian Price Of Gold The price fixed by the Commonwealth Bank for gold, including jewellery, lodged. at the Melbourne and Perth Mints, on September 12 was at the rate of £9 12/6 an ounce standard (22 carats), which is unchanged from Tuesday, and equal to a premium of 147.19 per cent. The price per ounce fine is £lO/10/-, which is also unchanged. Payment is made according to the assay value of the gold. Mauri Brothers’ Record Profit Net profit of £94,951 is reported by Mauri Brothers and Thomson, Ltd., a Sydney manufacturing and merchant company, for the year ended June 30. as against £94,432 the previous year. A vessel with unusual and varied duties which lias recently run trials in tlie Firth of Clyde is the survey ship Barbosa, built 'bv Messrs. George Brown and Co. (Marine), Limited, Greenock, for tlie Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company, Limited, London. She is specially designed for attending to tlie channel into Lake Maracaibo, South America. As this shifts from time to time, the vessel has to lift and replace tlie navigation buoys, and. the surrounding waler being very shallow, her draught is limited to Oft. Her dimensions are 101 f- b.p. bv 23ft. Gin. by 9ft. moulded, and her gross measurement is 193 tons. Tlie Barbosa is tilted with a special cast steel bow piece for hauling iu the moorings <>t tlie buoys, and she lias a 10-ton derrick and a two-ton derrick with a powerful winch for dealing with the buoys. In addition to tlie above work, she has lar"e fresh-water tanks for supplying ships in the port. Altogether there are I’l water and oil-fuel tanks built into tlie hull. Tlie hold is arranged for tlie carriage of gas bottles and fittings in connexion with her work, including stowage Cor pipes 22ft. long. Tlie officers’ and crew's accommodation is all on deck in large comfortable cabins wit.li electric light, and fans, and there is also an exceptionally large cliarr.rooin for use of the surveyors. Tlie propelling machinery. manufactured by Messrs. Plenty and Sun. Newbury, is steam-driven with an oil-fired boiler. The engine is compound, Ilin, by 22in. by 16m. stroke, and gave the vessel n speed of 9.04 knots on trials.
