Mako was surprisingly defeated in the second round of the Southampton lawn tennis tournament. 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, by a comparatively unknown Californian. Robert Peacock. W. Sabin defaulted in the middle of his match with G. Malloy and left the tournament tiecause the commit lee re fused to allow him to wear spikes. r l'ln- elimination of favourites continued in the third round. Dutter l>eat Cooke, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, and Toley heat Gill Hunt, 6-2, 6-0. Only three seeded players then remained, Riggs, Joe Hunt and Wood.
