COIN EVENING AT COLLEGE

The important part which vocational guidance is beginning to play and its value in determining the most suitable business avenues'which young people may enter, were discussed last night at a well-attended “coin evening” arranged by the parents’ association of Wellington East Girls' College. The gathering was held to enable mothers and fathers to listen to Miss .Toll, careers mistress at the college and girls’ vocational guidance officer for Wellington, and to meet Miss N. G. Isaac and the staff and exchange ideas with them on the subject of girls’ capabilities in this direction.

Lovely flowers were arranged on the ■stage in the Batham Assembly Hall, guests being welcomed by Mrs. A. U. Smith, president of the auxiliary, and Mrs. E. Bell, secretary. Fathers of pupils were keenly interested and were glad of the opportunity of meeting Miss Joll and other teachers. The best kind of education for girls wanting a successful business career was discussed, also Karitane nursing and hairdressing prospects, and as a result of the many home science positions which are advertised, the homo science course and training were fully explained. Parents’ desire to launch their daughters on the “right road" to business life was illustrated by the number of questions which were asked and answered during the evening, at the conclusion of which supper was served. The most important garment just now is a really smartly cut waterproof. There is a variety of styles from proofed tweed coats to twin rubber capes. Wilson's, 52 Willis I Street, have a splendid range.
