Price Increase Takes Effect Today Au increase of 4cl. a gallon in the wholesale and retail prices of motor spirit in those districts in which the price of motor spirit is fixed by regulations, will take place as from today. In the resolutions passed by Parliament last night provision was made for an increase in the rate of duty on motor spirit imported into New Zealand, by 4d. a gallon. This has necessitated the introduction of an amendment to the regulations fixing the price of motor spirit in those areas where the price fixation scheme has been introduced. An official statement on the subject says that the price fixation of petrol was introduced with a view to stabilizing conditions within the industry and the appropriate alteration to the prices Io take care of the new adjustment in duty is contained in the amending regulation which becomes operative^as from today. Regulations fixing tlie price are operative in practically the whole of New Zealand at present, and the amendment as now passed affects all tlie district regulations that have from time to time been gazetted.'
