GERMANS ANNOYED BY CROWD

Davis Cup Team Beaten By Yugoslavia

ZAGREB, July 30. In the final of the Davis Cup European zone, Yugoslavia beat Germany by three matches to two. Yugoslavia won both the final singles today.

The Zagreb correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that a crowd of 5000 wildly cheered the Yugoslav victory. The German players, who considered the crowd’s d&thusiasm spoiled their game, resented their failure and made caustic comments on the crowd’s behaviour. Henkel intimated that no German tennis player would again play at Zagreb. Results are:— D. Mitic (Yugoslavia) beat R. Goepfert (.Germany), 6-1, 6-2, 6-3; Puncec (Yugoslavia) beat H. Henkel (Germany), 10-8, 6-3, 6-0. SEABRIGHT FINALS Parker’s Fine Showing NEW YORK, July 30. in the final of the men’s singles at the Seabright tennis tournament, F. Parker beat D. McNeill, 6-3, 8-6, 6-0. Parker played with almost mechanical precision and his new forehand functioned well. McNeill carried the fight to Parker in the first two sets, going to the net consistently, but Parker was too steady and passed him repeatedly with unerring shots down the sidelines. Parker’s victory has boosted his chances of a place in the Davis Cup team.

In the women’s finals Miss H. Bernhard beat Miss D. Workman, 6-3, 7-5. In the final of the mixed doubles A. K. Quist (Australia) and Miss A. .Marble beat E. T. Cooke and Mrs. S. Fabyan, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The calibre of the tennis was mediocre, partly due to the condition of the courts, which were stiff slippery and uneven. Quist netted frequently, apparently suffering from lack of practice against top-notch opponents. In the finals of the men’s doubles F. A. Parker and D. McNeill beat. W. Sabin and G. Mako, 6-1, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Quist practised for two sets against G. Mulloy. concentrating mainly on shots from the baseline and rarely going to the net. The Australian may play in the doubles tournament in Southampton.
