The recent closing down pf the post office in Moawhango, which had been conducted in connexion with a store, recalls the days when the town was the centre of a busy district. In those days it wiis no uncommon sight to see a string of 10v or more horses loaded with wool making a start from Moawhango for the long trek over the Ruahine Ranges to Napier. The changes in transport and the growth of centres such as Raetihi and Ohakune have resulted in the disappearance of such picturesque scenes as were formerly to be seen iu Moawhango and other centres similarly situated.
