SEA TO SEA TRAVELOGUE

A “sea to sea” survey of the Canadian continent, showing points of interest en route, was given by Mr. J. W. Collins, former New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Canada, to the travel circle of the English Speaking Union last night. Films illustrated the speaker’s remarks and Included entertaining “shots” of natural scenery and commercial enterprise.

Trout and bass fishing in the Canadian lakes, the Niagara Falls, fruit orchards and the vast storehouse of natural power and mineral wealth found in Ontario, were depicted, as well as the bristling activities of modern skyscraper cities. Mr. Collins spoke of the great attraction Niagara Falls In Id, as on an ordinary Sunday aboot 83,000 cars would arrive from the States side and about 18,000 from the Canadian side to visit this spot, which now possessed a rival in Callender, Ontario, a village which “lured” many thousands to see the Dionne Quintuplets. On a weekday there would be, perbai>s, 3300 cars parked in the streets, while occupants were viewing these famous children.

In mentioning Bermuda as one of the places seen during a visit to 22 countries, Mr. Collins said many people supposed it bad a large trade with New York, supplying onions, lettuce and celery, and though this was true he mentioned that the onions crop of the Hutt Valley was much greater. People had the idea that Bermuda was a large island, but one could easily walk round it in about, three or four hours. .Mr. Frank Pears, circle chairman, welcomed tlie speaker and members.
