Finn Obtains Possession Of Goods

NEW PLYMOUTH, July 31.
Because the Collector of Customs at New Plymouth today gave possession of ' the goods in dispute, tlie action of C. C. Ward, Ltd., against the Collector, which was to have been heard in the Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, has been withdrawn by the plaintiff firm. The goods were purchased with the firm’s overseas funds without licence. When the case came on in the Magistrates’ Court on July 17 an adjournment was granted to allow of further negotiation and inquiry into the merit of the firm’s case. The result of these negotiations was delivery of the goods, which lurd been held in bond for some months. The goods, it is stated, were imported through no deliberate attempt at overimportation. The position arose when the restrictions- were announced during the Christmas rush, and definite details on many points were not available. The goods were cleared through the Customs and full duty and sales tax paid before the action was started.
