Y.M.CA. Ladies’ Auxiliary. The special campaign which the Wellington Y.M.C.A. is holding next month will benefit considerably by the efforts of group six of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, which arranged an enjoyable afternoon gathering, held in the lounge, on Wednesday.

The conveners were Mesdames Vernon and Henley, and the president of the auxiliary, Mrs. R. S. Maunder, presided.

A large (lumber of members and friends attended, and the lounge looked very cheerful with its bowls of hydrangeas, poppies, and jonquils. An interesting talk on Central Europe was given by Miss Kershaw, who toured there extensively both before and during the crisis of last year. After describing many of her experiences there and the evidences she saw of persecution and privations, Miss Kershaw ap pealed for the sympathy and kindness of New Zealand people toward the refugees, who were coming into this country. .Songs were given by Mesdames Rossiter mid Wilfred Andrews, and Miss Dav was the accompanist. Mrs. L. J. Greenberg, who had recently been living in Dunedin, was warmly welcomed back to the auxiliary. A dainty afternoori tea was served by the members of the group, and a well-stocked stall was extensively patronized.

Race Ball on Thursday. The race ball which is being organized by Mr. Rodney Fankhurst at the Mayfair Cabaret on Thursday night promises to be very .successful. A novel evening has been planned from start to finish and patrons are advised to secure their tables as early as possible, as the number of tickets is being strictly limited. Brooklyn Townswomen’s Guild. The Brooklyn Townswomen’s Guild held its monthly meeting recently in the R.S.A. rooms, when Airs. L. F. Smith presided over a large gathering of members.

The speaker for the afternoon, Mrs. Muriel Lewis, gave an interesting address on some of her experiences while living in Hong Kong, and at the conclusion of her talk she was presented with a sand posy. The arts and crafts circle reported that during the month members had been engaged in making brass and pewter articles, raffia trays, novelty tea cosies, crocheted cane shopping baskets and frame fancy mats.

Airs. Albert, convener of the gardening circle, reported that members had met at Mrs. Tucker’s residence when Airs. Andrews demonstrated the making of a sand posy. Mrs. Anderson, convener of the bridge circle, reported that two meetings had been held,, a large number of members receiving instruction in bridge.

The competition for the best sand posy was judged by Airs. Lewis and Airs. Wilfred Andrews, the prize being won by Mrs. Tucker from a record number of entries.

The monthly competition for the best bloom was won by Airs. Andrews. During the afternoon members were entertained with solos by Airs. Wilfred Andrews and part-singing by the glee

club, conducted by Airs. S. Hllliker. Mrs. Haigh played the accompaniments. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Alanson, Orr, Fitchett, Carey, Roxbrough, Upton, Haigh. During the afternoon eight new members were enrolled.

Robin and Co., 17 Grey Street, _ are showing some very special, table knives, both sizes. , The blades are silverplated, the silver-mounted handles are real ivory riveted to the long shaft of the blade.
