Miramar Golf Links
Sir,— May I be permitted to register a strong protest against the proposed annexation of part of the Miramar Golf Club’s links for the erection of a new Rongotai College? Recently we had quite a fuss made of a Keep Fit Week. At least 400 men and women keep fit on the Miramar links every week, to say nothing of visitors, but apparently adults will have to make arrangements to keep fit elsewhere. Most people over 30 years of age are not able to indulge in the more strenuous sports of football, hockey, etc., yet Miramar links, the only playing area for the older people within easy reach of the city, must be coveted for a school. One can easily imagine the outcry if any football or cricket ground (and they are legion around Wellington) were annexed for this or any other purpose. There are plenty of other sites in the locality for the school. What about the foothills- at Miramar? There is plenty of land there for a camping ground for the exhibition, why not for Rongotai College?—l am, etc., ONLY A GOLFER. Wellington, June 29.
