UPPER HUTT COUNCIL
Candidates For Vacant Seat
Messrs. J. Purvis and O. Plummer have been nominated as candidates for the vacancy on the east ward representation on the Upper Hutt Borough Council. This vacancy resulted from the election of Mr. J. Blewman (Labour) to the mayoralty in the recent by-election following the death of Mr. Peter Robertson. In that election Mr. Purvis was second in a five-cornered contest and he was also second In it four-cornered election when the late Mr. Robertson succeeded. Mr. Purvis is Hutt 'County and Upper Hutt representative on the Wellington Hospital Board and a former borough councillor. Mr. Plummer is secretary of the Upper Hutt branch of the New Zealand Labour Party.
There are uow four Labour inemliers on the council, inclusive of the mayor, and three independents.
