News And Notes From Town And Country Masterton Plunket Society. At, the monthly meeting of the Masterton Plunket Society Mrs. J. Caselberg presided over a good attendance. The resignation of Mrs. Neal Irwin from the position of honorary treasurer was received with regret. The committee adopted the following resolution: “The committee accepts with great regret Mrs. Irwin’s resignation. It desires to express gratitude for her excellent work over a period of six years, and further, wishes to tend to Mr. Irwin its very sincere thanks and appreciation of his valuable help in the work of the branch. ’ New Institute Branch. A meeting of the women of Te Ore Ore, Mas.terton, was held recently, ami arrangements were made to establish in the district a new branch of the women’s institute. Mrs. F. Joblin, Gladstone, president of the Wairarapa Federation of Women's Institutes, presided over the meeting, which was well representative of the district, and apologies for absence were received from several interested women. It was decided to name the new institute, Te Ore Ore. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs. A. Fouhy; vice-presidents, Mrs. McDonald and Mrs. Jack Haeata; secretary-treasurer, Miss E. M. Bliss; committee, Mrs. J. Karaitaiana, Mrs. Anaru, Mrs. Nini (with power to add). An interesting address was given by Mrs. Joblin, who explained the aims and aspirations of the institute movement.

Bridge Party for Ambulance Funds. Mrs. T. F. Walshe held a most successful bridge party recently in aid of the Wellington Free Ambulance and will be convener for a series of parties every two weeks throughout the season. Mesdames W. H. Gledhill, D. J. McGowan, and M. A. Searle, of the ladies auxiliary, will be in charge of the afternoon tea. Those present were Mesdames H. D. Bennett, A. Longmore, A. B. Gibbons, F. McAuley, A. A very pleasant afternoon was spent recently when Miss Zoe Tansley was the guest of honour at a “kitchen tea” given for her by Mrs. Leo Du Chateau, assisted by Mrs. Len du Chateau. Miss Tansley, whose marriage to Mr. V. H. du Chateau will shortly take place, was the recipient of many useful gifts. Those present included Madam Logre, 'Mesdames I. Tansley, G. C. Beckett, E. Findiayson, S. Tansley, H. Steffens, M. J. Mcßryde, J. I. Beckett; Misses Bobs Harker, Sheila Wellwood, Gerald Donovan, Lola Tingey, and Kitty Steffens. Miramar Townswomen’s Guild. The monthly meeting of the Miramar branch of the Townswomen’s Guild was held recently in St. Aideu’s Hall with a large attendance of members. Several new members were nominated. The president, Mrs. Bradstock, apologized for the absence of Mrs. IV. Nash, who was to have addressed the meeting, but was unable to be present owing to sickness. Mrs. Bradstock introduced Mrs. Bagnall who gave a talk on her recent trip to Scotland. Jackqulin Ferris, Valerie Dighton and Joan Scott, three tiny pupils of Miss Una Weller, entertained with recitations, each little girl being presented with a box of chocolates by the president. Mrs. Bradstock announced that the next meeting would be the first birthday of the branch, and would be in the form of a party, a birthday cake having already been presented for the occasion. Afternoon tea brought to a conclusion one of the most enjoyable afternoons held by this branch. The hostesses for the day were Mesdames Chote, Burnes, Brown and Chadwick.
