Beef Prices Rise At Sale In Feilding Dominion Speciai Service FEILDING. March 31. A definite rise in the prices for beef was seen at the Feilding stock sale today. Some excellently-finished medium-weight run-fattened cows were offered, aud heifers made more than 30/- !l 1601 b. Hie shortage of grass is causing farmers to bring their stock in before they lose condition. Butchers today had a good choice. Fat wethers were up by about 2/- a head, and with freezing works buyers’ again on the market for lambs, the sale for them was good. Ewes continued to improve slightly. Store sheep were hard to quit, the demand being very slack for aged owes and lambs. A very poor representation of two-tooths was yarded.

Quotations are:— Sheep: Prime lambs, 10/9 to 20/6; lighter, 17/7 to 18/6; unfinished, 16/-: extra prime wethers, 22/- to 23/-: prime, 20/- to 21/9; lighter, 17/10 to 19/6; prime ewes. 12/2 to 13/6: second grade, 10/6 to 11/11 : others, to 10/-; good twotooth ewes. 26/- to 27/7; smaller, 21/2 to 24/9; best- five-year ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 14/1 to 15/-: others, 10/3 to 13/9; five and six-year ewes, 10/- to 10/6 ; aged ewes. 5/- to 6/7; two-tooth wethers, 14/6; best wether lambs, 10/4; small, 4/4 to a/-. Cattle: Light prime P.A. and Hereford cows. £6/7/6 to £6/li/6; second quality, £6 to £6/5/-; ex-dairy cows, best, £4/15/- to £5/15./-; others. £3/5/- to £4/10/-: prim heifers. £6/17/- to £7 5/-; lighter. £5/17/6 to £6/9/-; Hereford steers, prime, £B/7/6 to £9/5/-; lighter. £7/15/-; Jersey steers, £6: vealers, £ W-; boner cows, £2 to £2/13/-; weaner heifers, good, £3/2/- to £3/15/-; smaller, £1 to £2/11/-; springing heifers, £8; springing eqjvs, £4.
