CHEMICAL PLUMBERS
Application For Award The Court of Arbitration yesterday heard an application for a Dominion award to cover chemical plumbers. Partial settlement was reached in the conciliation proceedings, the matters referred to the Court including wages and holidays. Mr. 11. J. Bishop appeared for the employers and Mr. H. Thompson for the applicant union. The union sought a minimum wage of £8 a week. The employers offered 2/9 an hour for skilled workers, 2/4 an hour for unskilled workers for the first three months, 2/6 an hour for tlie second six months, and 2/9 thereafter. The union asked for two weeks’ holiday on full pay, the employers suggesting that the provisions of the Factories Act, and its amendments, should apply. Decision was reserved.
