SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Wellington Schools’ Championships THORNDON BATHS CROWDED i The swimming carnival held in 1 horndon baths last night by the Wellington Centre, as part of Physical Fitness M eek, was confined mainly to school children's championship events. The accommodation was taxed to capacity, many finding an excellent view from the roofs of the cubicles. In a brief speech the deputy-mayor. Air. M.| F. Duckie, congratulated the Wellington Swimming Centre on the success of its efforts in Physical Fitness Week, and said that his fellow city councillors were anxious to provide better bathing facilities for the people of Wellington. The council would do all it could to assist in providing such facilities, but the- provision of new and up-to-date baths was in the hands of the people. The outstanding swimmer of the carnival was E. Dennis, Greytown, who won both the schoolboys’ freestyle championships, under 14, of 75 and 100yds., comfortably. S. Brien, St. Mary's College, was the outstanding girl, winning the 75 yds. championship, under 14. P. Barclay,' Eastern Hutt, in winning the 25 and 50 yds. schoolgirls’ championships, under 12. showed herself a freestyle swimmer of promise. Results:— 25yds.
