BROKEN HILL WAGES

An Agreement Reached 1 Labour conditions in the mines at Broken Hill. New South Wales, will be stabilised until July. 1942, as a result of the agreeniPiit covering wages and hours entered into by the men and the companies. The news that the men had decided to accept the companies' amended log was welcomed by representatives of the industry in Melbourne. The opinion was expressed that the decision would have a stabilising effect upon the industry generally. The men had before Christmas rejected an offer by the companies. The old agreement expired in October, but work continued under' its terms pending the conclusion of negotiations. I’nder the new agreement the men will receive payment for the Good Friday and Easter Monday holidays. Together with a slight alternation in the incidence of the lead bonus payments to the men, this represents practically the only change from the old agreement.
