EASTBOURNE FERRY SERVICE Expenditure Curtailed UNFAVOURABLE RESULT OF YEAR’S OPERATIONS Expenditure had been curtailed as far as possible but the result of the year’s operations was sure to be even less favourable than in the past, said the town clerk, Mr. C. L. Bishop, commenting on the ferry services in his monthly report to the Eastbourne Borough Council last the month of December the revenue in the ferry department was approximately £4OO lower than that for the corresponding period of last year, he continued. The total for the nine months showed a decrease of approximately £6uo, and with the unfavourable weather durin- the early part of January it was likely that there would be a further heavy falling off for that month. Recommendatoins for the running of the service during the winter months would be submitted to the February meeting of the Transport Board. Speaking to the report, Mr. Bishop said that the position had been improved recently by the support accorded the daylight excursions. Bus Service Satisfactory.

In spite of the unfavourable weather for the holiday period the traffic receipts for the omnibus service were slightly above those for the corresponding period of last year. More trips were now being run, however, and the expenditure was somewhat higher. For the nine months of the financial year the increase in revenue had been sufficient to. meet the increase in costs and the position of the service was quite satisfactory.

BUILDING ON BEACH

Shearer at a meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council last night, commenting ion a building which the Muritai Yacht Club is erecting on the Eastbourne foreshore. The work Jiad not been done in a workmanlike manner, and was not according to plan. The mayor, Mr. E. W. Wise: We certainly strained a point when we gave them permission to build, and it would have been only fair to us for them to have complied with the council’s requirements. The recommendation was adopted.
