FIRE IN CONVENT
Feilding Brigade’s Good Save Dominion Special Service. FEILDING, January 25. The Feilding fire brigade made a good save early last evening when it was called to attend an outbreak of fire in Feilding Convent. Fanned by a high wind, the flames had a good hold of the building and the brigade was presented with a difficult task, but in (lie face of big odds brigadesmeji quelled the fire, Remarkably little damage was done. Fire broke out in the rear portion of the convent and obtained a strong hold. After half an hour's battle the men bad tlie flames under control and checked their spread, damage being confined to that part which was on fire. Fortunately the nuns were in Wanganui at the time. Tlie building was being renovated nt tlie time of tlie outbreak and was unoccupied. The origin of the fire is at present a mystery. It is understood that the building was insured with a Wellington office.
