MANUAL TRAINING IN SCHOOLS

Committee Recommendation Approved By Minister

The Minister of Education, Mr. Fraser, has approved of the recommendations of the committee which was set up to consider manual training in the Hutt Valley. This committee comprised representatives of the Wellington Education Board, the Petone Technical School Board, the Hutt Valley High School Board and the Education Department, and met at the Petone Technical College on December 14. In a letter read at yesterday’s meeting of the Wellington Education Board, Mr. F, C. Renyard, writing on behalf of the Director of Education, .stated that the approved recommendation was as follows :— "That in respect of accommodation, those pupils who are at present attending the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College from the Upper Hutt and Trentham districts for manual training in woodwork and cookery should attend the Hutt Valley High School for such training, provided that the board of managers of the high school gives its consent.” “I should therefore be glad,” said Mr Renyard, "if, when time-tables for manual training for the current year are being drawn up, the provisions of this recommendation will be borne in mind, and it is hoped that the immediate difficulties of accommodation will be in this way overcome.” SATURDAY’S TENNIS FIXTURES Following are the Hutt Valley Lawn Tennis Sub-Association’s fixtures for Saturday Senior A.
