STOCKS AND SHARES
Government Loans Wanted
OTHER ISSUES QUIET
Interest in the Wellington stock and share market yesterday, as elsewhere, centred mainly on Government loans which continued in keen demand at rates slightly firmer than those quoted last Friday. Supplies were scarce, there being an almost entire absence of sellers and no business was reported locally. Two carnal! parcels of local body debentures, including Wellington City, 4} per cents., 1/2/1948, sold at firm rates. Banks were dull and tending lower. New Zealands were offering at 3J/9. Financial shares were neglected and insurance issues were quiet. Meat-freezing shares were weak. New Zealand Refrigrating sold at 17/-. buyers staying in at 16/11 and offering 7/8 for the 10/- paid. Wellington Woollens were firm at 92/for both issues. Bond’s Hosiery were sought at 16/-, a fall of 6d. There was a better inquiry for breweries at steady rates. Little interest was shown in other New Zealand industrials. Leading Australians were quiet and easier, a feature of this section being a sharp fall in Australian Glass which were wanted at £5/4/-, as against a sale last week at £5/12/-.
