CHRISTCHURCH, January 19.
Air. C. G. S. Simkin has been appointed lecturer in economics nt Canterbury University College. Mr. Simkin, who is 25 years old, will take Hie place made vacant by the resignation of Mr. G. Lawn, now economic adviser to the Reserve Bank. Mr. .Simkin entered the University of Otago in 1933 as an arts student. There he gained the Macandrew Scholarship, which is awarded annually to the best stage 111 economics student at the university. He graduated as bachelor of arts and received the Diploma of Social Science, and a senior scholarship in economics. In 1936 lie received first-class honours in the master of arts degree, and was placed first in New Zealand. In 1937 He was awarded the National Research Scholarship by the Universtiy of New Zealand. During the last two years he has been Sir Robert Stout Research Scholar in economics.
In 1937 and last year he was appointed to give lectures in accountancy and economics at Otago University. Since .1936 he has been engaged in part-time work for the Workers’ Educational Association.
