SEVERAL SURPRISES

Two Rounds Of Section Play

By Telegraph—Press Association,

AUCKLAND, January 13. The championship tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association was continued today, when a start was made with section play in the fours event, two rounds being played. The weather, which had showed distinct signs of breaking on the previous evening, held up well, the players being favoured with good conditions. Though the greens ■were slightly more holding, the wind was not so much in evidence as during the early stages of the tournament.' Two hundred and twenty teams contested the event.

One of the early surprises was the heavy defeat of the Australian lean), sktoped by Harrison, holders oi «ie fours title. H. Wilson’s team, of Linwood, was beaten in the morning bi Dick (Ponsonby). . The two English players, C. 1. auu K. I. Cross, who are competing in a Wellington four, won their first game, • but were beaten in the second. Another unexpected defeat was that of Pilkington (Hamilton), who was beaten in the second round by Casey (Thorndou). Results Section A. First round: Brlghtlng (Hataitai) 22. L.
