OTTAWA, January 12.
An intimation that the annual vote for defence would establish a record for Canada was a feature of the Speech from the Throne, delivered by the Governor-General, Lord Tweedsmuir, at the opening of the Dominion Parliament today. The total figure was not disclosed.
A Defence Purchasing Commission of three will be established to prevent profiteering in munitions. The forecast of legislation includes regulation of the grain exchanges, readjustment of the Government aid for grain growers, unemployment insurance, and a longrange public works programme to relieve unemployment.
