EMPLOYERS AND MEN TO MEET

Minister Of Labour’s Plan

The conference between representatives'of employers and workers for the purpose of considering the proposal of the Minister of Labour, Mr. Webb, for the formation of an industrial advisory council for Wellington on the lines of those already set up in centres in the South Island is to be held in the social hall of Parliament Buildings at 11 a.m. on Wednesday next, it was Announced by the Minister in an interview last evening.

The Minister said that invitations to the conference would be extended to the Employers’ Association, the Chamber of .Commerce, the Manufacturers’ Association, the Farmers’ Union and the City Council. Representatives of the Federation of Labour and of each industrial union of workers are also td be invited to the conference, together with representatives of the Labour Department and Wellington members of Parliament. The Minister emphasized that he desired the attendance also of representatives of any other organizations of workers or employers who consider-? ed that they had any contribution to make to the conference.

“The object in view is to bring the various sections of industry closer together in order that they may concentrate upon the problems of industry,” Mr. Webb said. “I am hoping that an advisory industrial council will be set up in each main centre in the Dominion on which the employers and the workers can get together and discuss problems peculiar to their industries and also contemplated legislation affecting industry. Everybody who can contribute to the general well-being of industry is invited to the conference, which will be open also to representatives of the Press.”
