“I Practise My Cornet”

American Penfriend Wants to Know What You Do

pHARLES BROAD, of Chicago, plays the cornet and the harmonica; he is a boy scout, and he collects stamps. He wants to start a children's international correspondence club among his schoolmates and suggests you might like to start something of the same kind among your friends. You will like his letter!

IUTY brother and I, writes Charles Broad, are both students of the grade school in Chicago, Illinois, and would like to establish mail friendships with a few friends in other countries. We would like to exchange jokes, personal photographs with children of other nations; tell of what we see at the movies, of what we hear on the radio, of what is going on all around

And we would like to know more of our world-wide friends than the dry reading in our school books. We are starting a children’s international correspondence club among our schoolmates, among the Boy Scouts of our troop; correspondence to be carried on at intervals that would permit of intercorrespondence with friends in other parts of the world. It is quite possible that several of your friends (possibly the scouts), will want to form a club and enter into correspondence with us. Let’s call it the Foreign Mail Club. Attempt will be made to reply to all who write, though some delay may be encountered. As a starter, I might say that I am a Boy Scout and my brother is a Cub Scout. W dad is a printer (monotype operator) by trade; and an amateur photographer on the side. I practise on my own cornet and on my harmonica ; 1 like to study music. My brother (whose picture is not enclosed), likes to collect things. We have a car, have seen a considerable portion of the eastern part of the

United States, and we would write of the many interesting things encountered. Race, colour or creed should not be a bar to our friendships. Please write in English and include a ‘carefullywritten, complete mailing address. — Charles Broad, junior, 2707 Schubert Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.

An Australian boy writes thus: “Will you please help me to find a boy correspondent. I am 13 years of age and attend Canterbury Boys’ Fligh School, where I study English, mathematics, Latin, French, science, and will begin to study German this year. My hobbies are stamp collecting, shortstory writing, and swimming.— John F. Ward, 27 Reynolds Avenue, Bankst<)wn, New South Wales, Australia.

And here are three requests from South Africa: '

Patsy Pringle, “Elandusulei.” P.O. Hakstod, E. Griqualand, Cape Province, South Africa, would like penfriends aged 11-12, interested in stamp colleoting.

Moira Parry, P.O. Box 8, Harding, Natal, South Africa, would also like a penfriend aged 11-12 years. Peter Gallagher, P.O. Emuqusheni,\ Pondoland, Cape Province, South Africa, would like penfriends interested in boxing and stamp collecting. All these boys and girls are eagerly awaiting replies, so write now!
