AWAPUNI WORK
The Bigot And Laughing Lass FLORENCE MILLS WELL Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N„ January 13. Cold weal her, combined with a tew light showers, made training operations unpleasant yesterday. 1 he going, howe u, was satisfactory. There were plenty horses out early, but most of then; iveie not required Io undergo serious tasks. As Awapuni stables are strongly repiesenled at the coming Trentham meeting, more than usual interest is being taken .in the track work. The general condition o the horses suggests that they should „ct a fair share of the slake money. . Luke Wilson has Old Bill looking in ■mod shape, though he has not been unduly bustled since bis return from Auckland. The Siegfried colt is still tl 1 galloper, but his performances at the Ellerslie fixture disclosed freat possibi ities. With ordinary luck. Old Bill will be among the early stake-winners. He muj be stepped out on the second day at Lrent bum. Quadroon, Florence Alills ami Corvoboree go through their tasks satisfactorily and are well. It should be kept in mind that Florence Mills does not relish a soft track. The 'chaser Clarion Call was B iv « n long, steady exercise on the plough. He will not be seriously persevered with for some time. . „ , Bing Boy was accompanied by led Prior over seven furlongs on the plough, the last live registering 1.9. There was little between them at the finish. Bing Boy looks in solid order, and Yed Prior is making very satisfactory headway. Golden Ridge was running on more resolutely' than Seyfried at the close of seven furlongs, on the course proper, in 1.384. They were not bustled over the last bit. Both are in good racing shape, specially Golden Ridge. Quadroon, looking none the worse for his Auckland racing, was given a working gallop. He pulled up well, showing no signs of soreness. Quadroon shows his best form on a holding track. Royal Choice, bearing a bright and healthy appearance, strode nicely over six furlongs on the plough. Florence Mills, always a smart track worker, was responsible for a pleasing effort in traversing six furlongs on the plough in 1.21. Newbury Queen, on the course proper, without being required to do her best, left three furlongs behind in a shade over 39. Lady Ina and Sporting Gift —both useful property—-were allotted a half-mile sprint, Lady Ina finishing in front in 53 4-5.
Oratory, now bearing a more solid appearance, galloped in very impressive latjliion over five furlongs, on the plough, registering 1.6 3-5. The Bigot held a slight advantage over Laughing Lass in a run over seven furlongs on the plough. They were not out to make time. Both are working well. Silver River and Rarotonga went through useful exercises on the plough. Tidal Gift, Caution, Deflation, Aurora's Star. Aurora’s Love, Thrasos, Catalogue, Diamond Cutter, Guiding Light, White Gold, and Chevy Chase were among those given useful work.
