ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNS FOR BRITAIN

No More Of 4.5-linch Type

On Order (British Official Wireless.) (Received January 12, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, January 11.

In a statement relating to the supply of anti-aircraft guns, the War Office says that the 4.5-inch weapon is being provided on a scale commensurate with its relationship to the defences as a whole.

In considering a possible expansion, defence factors which have to be taken into account include the simplification of training and maintenance, the ease of the ammunition supply and standardization. These among other factors, together with considerations of the speed of production, have all to be weighed in determining the relative advantages between the 3.7-inch: and the 4.5-inch guns. The War Office statement intimates that no further orders for the 4.5-inch type are at present being placed.
