SYDNEY WOOL SALES

Substantial Increase In

Season’s Clip

(Received January 12, 11.55 p.m.)

SYDNEY, January 12.

At today’s wool sales competition was keen and general and resulted in full and satisfactory clearances. The market closed very firm, greasy merino making to 25d. Of the 12,352 bales offered, 11,280 were sold at auction and 1539 privately. The “Sun” says that wool is in a sound position statistically, though prices are lower than at the corresponding time last year, even allowing for yesterday’s 5 per cent. rise. Nearly 200,000 more bales have been sold in Australia during the first half of this selling season compared with the corresponding period of the previous season.
