PLAN FOR TOBACCO INDUSTRY
Board And Federation Meet
BETTER UNDERSTANDING SECURED
Several questions of importance to the tobacco industry, including a plan for the industry,, kiln capacity, the adoption of a uniform form of contract, prices of leaf and the method of storing tobacco, were discussed at a recent meeting at Motueka of the Tobacco Board and the executive of the New Zealand Tobacco Growers’ Federation, said the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. Sullivan, in a statement yesterday. » “As a result of the meeting and of the very full discussion which took place between the board and the executive of the federation, a number of points of difficulty were cleared up and a better understanding secured by the members of both bodies regarding problems affecting the tobacco-growing and manufacturing industry,” the Minister said.
“In addition to issuing an illustrated brochure on hints to growers on care of tobacco after harvesting, which the board decided upon at the previous meeting, the board will also, after the next harvesting season, arrange for the preparation of two further brochures, one covering operations from the seed stage to planting out in the fields, and the other covering operations from planting out to curing,” he added.
