AUCKLANDER’S DEATH IN SUVA
Fell From River Launch
SUVA, December 10.
George Bright, aged 35, superintendent of the Suva Fire Brigade, formerly of Auckland, fell from a launch into the Rewa River on Wednesday and disappeared. His body was recovered this morning.
An Auckland message states that the first news of the drowning of George Bright was received in a cable from the Suva Fire Board to the Auckland Fire Station, where his brother, EricBright, is employed. His mother, Mrs. 11. Bright, resides at Sandringham. Auckland.
George Bright was born in Sydney but lived most of his life in Auckland. He joined the central fire station staff at the age of 21 and remained till lie became deputy-superintendent at Suva 12 years ago.
He received high praise for his work in the disastrous fire in the copra store of Morris Hedstrom Ltd. in March, 1937, when his right arm was severely burnt.
