VISIT BY OVERSEAS LECTURERS

College Council Approves Principle

Dominion Special Service.

AUCKLAND, December 12,

Support in principle was given by the council of Auckland University College to a proposal under which one or more eminent overseas lecturers might be annually invited to visit New Zealand. The plan was advanced by Professor 11. G. Denham. Canterbury, in a memorandum placed before the Senate of the University of New Zealand in January. On the recommendation of its education committee the council decided to approve tli-e scheme in principle and it was suggested that the Senate should take the matter up with the Government as soon as it thought the time was opportune. Advice was also received from the Carnegie Corporation of New York that. Dr. Tyler Dennett, formerly president of Williams University College, would be visiting New Zealand in April of next year. Dr. Dennett, who is interested in Pacific affairs, intends to visit university centres.
