Annual Distribution Of Prizes

SUCCESSFUL YEAR’S WORK

in the assembly hall of St. Mary's College, Hill .Street, on December 9, the annual distribution of prizes and sports trophies took place. The ceremony was precelled by an enjoyable concert, many of the performers' showing outstanding ability in music, singing, ami elocution. The Rt. Rev. Monsignor Connolly, who presented the prizes, congratulated the pupils on their successes during the year. The school report showed that 12 pupils gained higher leaving certificates, and seven training college entrance. Of 21 presented for matriculation, 20 were sueccssful; of 20 presented for 1 üblic vice, 19 were successful, one of the pupils’, Colyn Hynes, gaining first place in M ellington; and of 10 presented for intermediate, 15 were successful. Seven pnptis '-ainetl Public Service shorthand-typists certificates, and I!) gained Pitman's shorthand speed certificates. Excellent results were also obtained in inu>sic, singing, and theory. The Clarke sewing shield was won by J. Baran. The sports were conducted by Mr Duffy, who is in charge of the physical culture. The college is indebted to the Rev. Dr. Walsih for the very great interest taken by him in the church music and religious instruction of the senior classes.
