FAREWELL SOCIAL FOR Y.M.C.A. SECRETARY

Mr. A. Edwards Honoured

A social organized by tbe women’s auxiliary of the Hutt Valley Young Men’s Christian Association, the committee and junior members, was held in the rooms in I’etone, on Saturday night, to fare; well Mir. A. Edwards, general secretary of the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A., who leaves shortly for overseas. The .president of the board of directors, Mr. C. G. Hedge, presided, and introduced the first president, Mr. J. N. Nicholson, who said that the membership of the Y.M.C.A. had doubled during Mr. Edwards's term of office. .Mr. Nicholson expressed regret at .Mr. Edwards's departure.

Other speakers were Mr. H. W. Kersley, a past-president of the association ; Mr. R. Al. Brasted, national secretary of the association, who spoke on behalf of the national council; Mrs. C. G. Hedge, president of the women’s auxiliary; and Mr. A. Benton, who represented the senior and junior members of the Y.M.CA. Mir. Hedge presented Mr. Edwards with two leather suiteases from the sections of the YM.C.A. actively represented.

In his reply Mr. Edwards referred appreciatively to Miss E. Bartley’s services as gymnasium pianist. The committee for the social was: —- Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Hedge, black mariette with a diamante clasp and a silver lame coatee; Mr. A. .Miller and Mrs. Miller, secretary of the women's auxiliary, in blue floral niarocain; Mr. and Airs. S. Ashton ; Mr. and Airs. V. Jacobson ; Air. and Airs. AV. Schmidt; Air. and Airs. C. Lamibourne; Mr. and Airs. H. Stevenson; Air. and Airs. Fuller; Air. and Airs. T. King: Air. and Airs. AV. Carey; Air. and Mrs. I-I. W. Kersley ; Air. and Airs. Green-, field; Air. and Airs. N. Sie.frcrz.iet; Air. and Airs. J. D. King; Air. and Airs. Hawkins; Altp.'T. Paton. Vocal items were given by Airs. N. Liehorziet and Air. J. Bricknail. After supper there was dancing, for which Air. Q. Kibblewhite, acted as mastcr-oif-ccremonies. Air. J. Alann was at the piano.
