Decrease Shown In Exports

HEAVY FALL IN LAMB KILLINGS With the exception of mutton, which showed an increase of 141,902 careases, and boneless veal, which was up bj 22 429 bags, exports of meat during the first two months of the 1938-39 season to November 30 were down on those for the corresponding period of last. year. Lamb decreased by 38,493 carcases, pork by 7138 carcases, chilled beef by l;>04 quarters and frozen beef by 7910 quarC Details of the shipments for the two months, with last year’s totals shown for comparative purposes, arc as follows: —

In addition to the above, 13,Still quarters of chilled beef, as against 14.813 quarters a reduction of 1504 quarters, and oS.JjW bags of boneless beef, as against 36,204 bags, an increase of 22,429 bags, were exported during the two months. Heavy Fall in Lamb Killings. Killings of lamb for export during the two months showed a substantial decrease of 251,337 carcases, the total being 352,996, as against 604,333 for the corresponding period of last year. Killings of lamb in North Island works during the two months were 351,395 carcases, as against 537,456 for the two months of 1937, a decrease of 186,061 carcases. In the South Island lamb killings were only IGOI as against 66,877 for the corresponding period of last year, a decrease ot 05,276 carcases. . Killings of mutton totalled 43,569 carcases, as against 28,317 carcases for the two months of last year, an increase of 15 252 carcases. Killings for chilled beef were 19.952 quarters, a decrease of 1126 quarters, and killings of pork were 82,388 carcases, as against 104,309, a decrease of 21.9’21 carcases.
