PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET

Admission Price Raised

WELLINGTON DECISION

In future Wellington followers of cricket will have to pay 1/6 for admission to the Basin Reserve to see Plunket Shield matches.

This decision was come to at the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association last night-

The chairman, Mr. J. H. Phillipps, explained that AVellington was the only centre which allowed spectators to witness Plunket Shield matches for 1/-, and the charges for staging matches had been raised. If the association allowed spectators admission to the ground at 1/-, it would be losing money on the matches. The Taranaki Cricket Association wrote stating that the visit of a AVellington second eleven so late in the season as March ivould not justify the .expense which would be entailed. The AVanganui association wrote in a similar strain. On the motion of tlie chairman, It was decided to ask the Marlborough and Nelson Cricket Associations if they would care to receive a visit from a AV ellington second eleven in March. It was decided to suggest that the team should play Alarlboroug.il. in Blenheim, on Alarch 7 and S, and Nelson, in'Nelson, on Alarch 10 and 11. . . , The Canterbury Cricket Association advised that Messrs. T. W. Burgess and J. McGuinness had been appointed umpires for the Wellington-Canterbury Blanket Shield match, lieginning in Christchurch on New Year's Eve.
