PALMERSTON N., December 12.

“Further to my July communication regarding loan proposals, I have to advise that the board now finds it necessary to include in the current section of its building programme the first instalment of additions to the nurses' home," stated a letter from Air. J. A. Nash, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, received at tonight’s meeting of the Palmerston North City Council. “AA’e had hoped to avoid raising this money for a further period, but we now find it necessary to proceed with part of the additions to the nurses’ home at the same time as the isolation hospital is proceeding. “In deference to the wishes of the Department of Health, we have decided not to proceed with the original proposal to place temporary staff quarters* over the isolation hospital, but intend to .proceed with one of the main blocks of additions to the nurses’ home. The scheme of additions to the nurses’ home was estimated to cost not less than £60,000, and this scheme was unanimously approved. “The proposals* now being gone on with are only part of the scheme put forward, as it is the board’s policy to do the minimum amount of building because of high costs The estimated cost of this block is* £28,000, and the board will be considering a loan pro-jrosal’ in this connexion at its next meeting.

“Since I last wrote the question of an isolation hospital has become a matter of extreme urgency.” “This is an intimation from the board letting us know what jts proposals are.” said the mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford. "The isolation block matter is urgent from the board's point of view.”
