CHRISTCHURCH. December 12.

A boy named John Ford and a bill. Doth attending- tlie Leeston School picnic in Sumner, narrowly escaped drowning near tlie boat harbour. Scarborough, on Saturday afternoon.

The boy. who was about seven years old, was unconscious when the beach patrol. Mr. A. Simpson, who was specially engaged for the picnic visit, reached the shore with bim. The boy responded to resuscitation treatment and later was able to leave for home with.bis mother. Mr. Simpson noticed some children running excitedly from the water and at once-dashed in. He found the girl just off the sea wall near the entrance to the harbour, the. scene of an accident last year.
