Members’ Farewell Party For Mrs. J. A. Doctor

Members of the Pioneer Club, Wellington, gathered in the clubrooms yesterday to bid farewell to Mrs. J. A. Doctor, a vice-president, who will leave on Tuesday for an extended trip abroad. The president, Miss Amy Kane, and the executive committee arranged the party which was of the flve-to-seven The occasion also celebrated Miss Kane’s birthday. and the guests took the opportunity of conveying their good wishes with musical honours.

The lounge was beautifully arranged with bowls of flame-coloured matsonias, arum lilies, manuka and delphiniums. The long tables, where a savoury buffet tea was served, had a centre bowl of blue and pink shaded flowers and smaller vases of mauve batcbelor’s buttons and pink sweet peas as decorations. In a brief speech, Miss Kane said the members were happy to have Mrs. Doctor with them and hoped that she would have a good trip and a safe re. turn. On behalf of those present, Miss Kane presented the guest of honour with a book in which to record her travel impressions. Mrs. Doctor thanked everyone for the good wishes extended to her and for fareweUing her in such a delightful manner. Miss Kane wore a floral crepe de chine frock under a redingote of black marquisette and a black turban hat with circlet of matching ospreys., Mrs. Doctor’s full-length afternoon frock was of leaf brown georgette with inset bodice of patterned ninon. Her hat was brown straw swathed in veiling and she carried a posy of flamecoloured flowers which had been presented to her on her arrival. Miss Kane of those present extended good wishes to a valued member, Mrs. Piper, who was leaving to reside in Queensland. Mrs. Doctor also wished Miss Kane a very happy birthday on behalf of members. The executive" committee members who assisted in entertaining were: Mesdames F. S. Pope, C. E. Adams, R. B. Gibbons, W. H. Gledhill, W. A. Martin, H. Ross, O. Kohn, Misses M. Cooper, V. Dawson, Batham and L. Bennett.

Members of the glee circle gave several enjoyable items during the even-' ing. Later the house and executive committees and the president and secretary of each club circle entertained Miss‘Kane at a picture party in honour of her birthday, the party returning to the clubrooms for supper.
