Mr. Savage On The Wireless

Sir, —-Listening to the Prime Minister on the radio last night I wondered if the composer of the stuff that was being doled out realized that he could not have more effectively placed Mr. Savage in a position to convey to his audience the impression that he was dealing with serious and weighty subjects of tlie effect of which he had no adequate conception. To me it seemed pitiable in the extreme, all the more so when the address dealt with the imposition of further burdens —purely experimental—to repair the damage done by the admitted failure of previous harassing experiments. Then again we had a further dose of Mr. Savage's favourite theme and stock phrase “standard of living.” which may be summed up in two words, “leisure and pleasure”: and. of course, attendant on this topic so dear to his heart various threats are conspicuous. Is it not time that the people of this country woke up and in no uncertain terms gave the Government to understand that as free-born British subjects the}' are not to be browbeaten by would-be dictators who after all are our servants. — I am, etc., AJAX. Wellington, December 8.
