COLONIAL ISSUE

Italian Disapproval Of British Attitude

(Independent Cable Service.)

LONDON, December 8.

Semi-official quarters in Rome describe Mr. MacDonald’s declaration of Britain’s attitude to the colonial issue as a. violation of the spirit of the Munich agreement. A Paris message states that most of the French newspapers take the view that the declaration definitely shuts the door, against negotiations.

The Colonial Secretary, Mr. MacDonald, said in the House of Commons on Wednesday: “I do not believe that there is today any section of opinion in this country which is disposed to hand over to any other country one acre of any territories or peoples for whose government we are responsible either as a colonial or mandatory power. That view has been expressed in every part of the House, and that view is shared by the Government. We are not discussing it and we are not considering it.”
