The approved policy of each automobile association was to support every sti p which would lead to greater safety for road users, ami members were expected to set an example to other motoHsl.s' in careful driving ami courteous and circumspect behaviour 011 the roads, said Mr. Lees. The burning question of the day was the large number of accidents attributed to drivers who were under the influence of alcohol. It was said nith justice that a few of such offenders were members of an automobile association, and he thought the privilege of membership should be withdrawn from any who were convicted of the offence. Very many motorists today who were not total abstainers refrained from taking any intoxicating liquor till they had finished driving for the day. In every trade in which members were responsible for the safety of others total abstention front alcoholic liquor was insisted on for all employees during working hours, and he believed that the time was not far distant when that rule would be insisted on for all motorists. Mr. Lees moved that these suggestions be adopted, and transmitted to the North and South Island Motor Unions with a request that all other automobile associations be recommended to adopt similar resolutions. Mr. 11. N. Rowe seconded the motion. The chairman, Mr. AV. 11. Brown, then moved as an amendment that the question be referred to the administration -committee for a report. This was carried.
