BOER WAR VETERAN

Reception To South African Visitor Mr. L. C. Tennent, who is on a visifi from South Africa to his brother, Dr. Alan Tennent, Wellington, was the guest of honour at a reception arranged- by the Wellington South African Veterans’ Association iu their clubroom recently. Captain J. J. Clark presided and welcomed Mr. Teinient, who was accompanied by Dr. Tennent and Dr. L. D. Cohen. Mr Tenuent left New Zealand for the Boer War with the Fourth Contingent, returned to the Dominion, and subsequently sailed again for South Afriea with the Tenth Contingent. After the war he remained iu South Africa, and this is the first time he has been back to New Zealand. By bis comrades he is described as the last man to return. On behalf of the association. Captain Clark presented Mr. Tennent with a handsome perpetual calendar set in rimu and with the association’s badge on either side of it In thanking the gathering, Mr. Ten- • nent gave a resume of his career after hig disesharge in South Africa.
