PROVISION OF MORE TENNIS COURTS

Ratepayers’ Complaint

“We would point out that tennis players are already well provided for by the present public and chib courts in the borough and it is difficult to understand why this section of the sporting public should be favoured while another has been excluded from the use of this portion of the recreation ground,” stated the Eastbourne Ratepayers' Association in a letter to the Eastbourne Borough Council’s monthly meeting in which it was stated that it noted with regret that the council had decided to provide grass tennis courts at the north-eastern end of the recreation ground. The association added that it felt Unit if better facilities were provided, picnic parties would be attracted to the borough, thus stimulating the use of the transport services. It considered that in view of the nature of the soil in that locality it was extremely unlikely that grass courts would stand up to the wear and tear. Reconsideration of the project was urged. The letter was received.
