NATIVE DOCTORS

Work In Pacific Islands

The good work being done in the New Hebrides and Solomon Islands by natives with medical training was mentioned in an interview yesterday by the Bishop of Melanesia, Rt. Rev. W. H. Baddeley. Each year the Government sent one or more native boys to the native medical school at Suva where they were trained for four years, he said. They returned to the islands and worked as native medical practitioners and some were doing very fine work. Many people had thought there might be prejudice against them, but some of them had been able to assist European residents of tbe islands and they were regarded in a very friendly way. Many of the white people spoke enthusiastically of their work.
