Fair To Fine At First; Strong Southerlies; Cold Temperatures.

Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day : — Yesterday’s depression moved rapidly eastward last night and pressure rose sharply. A secondary depression is, however, now advancing on to southern New. Zealand. /In intense anti-cyclone covers eastern Australia. The forecast is for westerly to north-westerly winds in places, more specially in eastern districts; but otherwise south-westerlies prevailing at first. A change to strong southerly winds to gales advancing from the south, however, and becoming general soon. Seas rough to high. . Strong south-west to southerly winds to gales in the eastern Tasman boa and rough to high seas but beginning to moderate to-day. . Weather mainly fair to fine at first in eastern districts and about Cook Strait. Elsewhere changeable with passing showers and showery conditions, extending to eastern districts with southerly change. Hail in places. Snow in parts ot the South Island and on the high levels of the north. Temperatures cold.
