Firm Trend at Yesterday’s Sales

Smail entries in both the sheep and cattle sections characterised the Johnsonville stock sale yesterday. The market was brighter and prices for bullocks and cows rose from it)/- to 20/- a head. The yarding of sheep was small,, particularly for wether mutton, and prices rose accord - ingly. Only medium .cardings of sheep and cattle came forward for the Wanganui sale, with rates showing a slight advance on recent sales. Dairy cattle did not sell so freely, and porkers made high rates under keen competition. The tinning tendency was maintained, at Westfield, and beef values advanced 1/- a hundred lb. Prices for wethers and ewes remained firm with an advance for prime ewes. Runners and vealers were in keen demand and prices were fully 1.0/- and 20/- a head better than late rates. Pigs again advanced on late rates. Good quality fat cattle were in short supply at .Stortford Dodge and prices showed a slight, easing on last week’s. There was a big yarding of sheep and prices were on the same basis as last week. The market generally was slow. Tliere was keen competition for the heavy yarding of fat cattle al Burnside, with.prices slightly firmer on last week's. Sheep also were in plentiful supply and prices remain firm. Baeoners sold well at late rates, but there was a. slight casing for porkers.
