Atlantic Blue Riband Not Recognised
A London, August 8. A CunaW-White t Star official says that the Queen Mary’s record crossing of the Atlantic from east to west yesterday was all i.n the day’s work. The liner was not out for record-breaking. The Cunard' Company, he said, was not claiming the Blue Riband of ■ the Atlantic, as it does 'not recognise it. Newspapers point out that the Blue Riband depends on average speed, in which respect the Normandie *so far has proved faster, averaging 31.2 knots for the eastward run last year. The Queen Mary averaged 30.99 knots.
