Barnes And Badcock In Form AUSTRALIANS BAITING AGAINST DURHAM LONDON, August 8. Australia batted first in the twoday cricket match against Durham at Sunderland, and 'had scored 379 for five wickets at stumps, Barnes and Badcock both scoring quick centuries.

Fog shrouded the ground and the pavilion was invisible from the opposite side of the ground, while the wicket was barely discernible from the boundary when the match was due to start, causing a delay. Later the fog suddenly lifted. The teams are:—

McCabe won the toss and Australia started, batting at 2.30 p.m. The wicket was slow.

The highlight of the afternoon’s cricket was the unfinished partnership of 169 runs by Barnes and Badcock. The former, batting in his most dashing style, reached his century in 120 minutes and at stumps had hit 15 boundaries. Badcock, driving and hooking furiously, raced to his century in 81 minutes.
